“Excellent content with valuable instructional practices that I can integrate into my AP Lang classes.”– Kellie Thompson
“Wonderful! I’m excited to return to St. Rita and share these new strategies. I think the students will find them quite engaging and I look forward to more effectively evaluating student work.” Sarah Huffman
“Very high quality–a variety of activities that help target certain skills. Direct, clear instruction. I especially liked the focus on being inductive, slowing down what happens in a strong student’s mind so that what they’re doing becomes visible to weaker students.” Art Heller
Poetry’s Efficiency in Practicing the Reading & Writing Plays
Come discover research-based strategies for engaging students in close reading and writing about poetry, as we explore lyric forms thematically linked with the world of The Great Gatsby, from poets such as Margaret Atwood, Byron, and Shelley. In this workshop, teachers will experience activities designed to harness how the brain learns and enable students to engage with poetry. Our day culminates in the afternoon with the Tournament of Scholars, a game where competition, close reading, and discussion meet.
